Dead End: Inside the Hunt for the I-70 Serial Killer by Bob Cyphers
HELP US CATCH A SERIAL KILLER
“We could really use the public’s help on this one.”
Kelly Rhodes, St. Charles, MO Police Department
St. Charles, MO: In 1992, a madman traveled along Interstate 70, randomly stopping at exits in Indianapolis, Wichita, Terre Haute, St. Louis, and Kansas City, selecting a quiet strip mall, and murdering the (usually female, almost always alone) store clerk before calmly slipping away. In one month, six victims were left behind, murdered in broad daylight in busy areas. There was no robbery. No sexual assault. No motive other than the thrill of the kill, and little evidence left behind. Police departments in all those cities, as well as the FBI and DNA experts, are taking one last, final crack at solving the crime.
Veteran KMOV-TV reporter Bob Cyphers has collected all the public-facing evidence in this case and assembled it into his new book, Dead End: Inside the Hunt for the I-70 Serial Killer, which takes the reader along the killer’s path. Cyphers has extensively interviewed the detectives who are still haunted by the case, family members who will never forget, eyewitnesses who stared the killer down, and the woman who may have survived the serial killers attempt to shoot her... twice.
Until this killer is caught, there is nothing stopping him from continuing to kill more randomly selected victims. In fact, I-70 Serial Killer may have already returned and killed again. This case, despite spanning 30 years and multiple jurisdictions, has never gone cold.
“We just need that one phone call to help us break this case.”
Chris Shrout, Raytown, MO Police Department
Leya Booth, Editor in Chief at Genius Book Publishing, says, “At Genius Books, we specialize in books without easy answers—without clear, guilt, or innocence of culprits. In that vein, we hope that this book leads somebody somewhere to remember something that can lead to resolution in this case. The families and friends of the victims, along with generations of detectives who have worked on this case, deserve at least that.”
Bob Cyphers is available for interviews and remains in close contact with the detectives and departments that have investigated the I-70 Serial Killer. Copies of Dead End: Inside the Hunt for the I-70 Serial Killer, as well as high resolution cover images and high-quality scans of some of the evidence can be obtained by contacting the publisher, Genius Book Publishing.
ENDORSEMENTS
“Bob has done an incredible job of in-depth investigating the I-70 murders. This book takes the readers back to the crime scenes and presents many previously unknown details about the investigators and agencies involved. More importantly, this book serves as a way of preserving case information while ensuring families of the victims, that every person associated with these cases cares deeply, has and will continue to remember these young victims.”
—Michael Crooke, Indianapolis Police Department
“For those of us in police service who have lived and worked on this case for more than 30 years, we will never stop pursuing this case. From the beginning, we have sought the public’s help in finding this serial killer through the release of appropriate information about the case. Bob’s book will help us continue our pursuit.”
—Pat McCarrick, St. Charles Police Department
“Trish was more than a wife. She was my best friend, the love of my life. Over the years I have kept up on her case. I owe this to her to participate in any way I can. I have the deepest appreciation for Bob’s book that may draw the public’s attention, hopefully reaching someone that might help bring this murderer to justice.”
Mark Magers, husband of Patricia Magers
“Thanks for shedding light on this case, Bob. You have been a breath of fresh air and I know if this case gets solved it will be in part because of you and your dogged determination to help us seek the truth.”
Brad Rumsey, Terre Haute Police Department
