Genius Book Publishing is a genre press focused on speculative fiction. We are generally interested in science fiction, fantasy, horror, post-apocalyptic, superhero, and other genres, including combinations of these genres with others such as mystery, thriller, and romance. We will also consider books purely in the mystery, thriller, true crime, and romance genres (without a speculative element), which may be published under another imprint.

Genius Book Publishing is not accepting open submissions of full manuscripts at this time. However, authors are encouraged to submit queries via the form below.

A query is a resume for your manuscript. The query’s job is to catch our attention and make us eager to read the full manuscript. Please give a brief synopsis of the book, including a general plot line and a mention of all the major characters (minor characters are not required), all the way to the end of the story. Please make sure to include the crisis, climax, and resolution in your synopsis.

Tips for queries:

  • The query should include your name, writing credits, the title of your work, the word count, and whether the manuscript is complete and will be available to be submitted upon request.
  • The synopsis should cover the entire story in a brief, exciting, compelling manner.
  • Keep the query brief and to the point.
  • Treat your query and synopsis like a resume: it should give us everything we need to understand the potential of your book.
  • Write the query at least as well as you wrote your manuscript.

A word on Dark Fiction: Genius Book Publishing is interested in all forms of Dark Fiction, but it has come to our attention that our definition of DARK and that of many others is different. This is how Genius Book Publishing defines Dark Fiction: A story where things get progressively worse, and then, just when you think it is as bad as it can get, something else goes horribly wrong. If possible, we would like to laugh along the way (hence, Wickedly Entertaining.) We want the protagonists—and in many cases, the antagonists—to work and suffer and struggle for every single thing they get. The more miserable the characters are, the more we enjoy it. Of course, someone must triumph at the end, but it is up to you as the author to decide who and how. Genius Book Publishing will consider all submissions, but if your work fits these descriptions, your query will go to the top of our lists.

If you have any questions about the query process, email the publisher at steven@geniusbookpublishing.com
